About our Nominations Service

The Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs operates a nominations service with a database of skilled Pacific people who are available for appointment to government boards and committees.

AN INVITATION TO CONTRIBUTE TO NEW ZEALAND’S FUTURE

Pacific peoples are much sought after for governance roles. This is why we need to hear from skilled Pacific people to be considered for the many boards and committees of national significance.

By being included on our database, Pacific people have a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to New Zealand’s future.

This section of the website explains our Nominations Service and how you can go about applying to join it.

Why keep a nominations database?

There are a number of government boards across New Zealand, from advisory committees on specialised subjects (for example, justice, health, culture or science) to boards of state-owned enterprises (for example, New Zealand Post, Television New Zealand). Positions on these boards become vacant each year, and they require people with different kinds of skills and experience.

The government wants to ensure that it appoints the best-qualified people to these positions, people who reflect the diversity of the New Zealand population.

The Ministry encourages Pacific people from all walks of life to consider being part of this process. They will complement the pool of Pacific leaders in New Zealand.

Our nominations service –
        • Promotes Pacific representation on statutory boards, committees and advisory groups
        • Maintains a database of highly skilled Pacific people with governance, business, and senior management skills
        • Recommends suitable candidates for appointment onto state sector boards and committees in New Zealand.

What's in it for you?

A governance role can give you valuable experience in your field of work, connect you with people who can help your career, and can lead to more senior or prestigious governance roles.

By taking on a governance role, you are providing a Pacific perspective on strategic matters, making an important contribution to Pacific people’s lives and to New Zealand society. For more information, download the Frequently-Asked Questions document. [PDF).
