Leadership development for Pacific senior managers

Pacific people are under-represented in management positions (and, in particular, senior positions) in the public sector. As a result, those who presently occupy management roles are often culturally isolated professionally.

The Pacific Senior Managers Leadership Development programme is designed to equip participants with both the skills and support networks to better address these challenges and support progression to more senior positions.

The programme aims to provide participants with:

• An understanding of the dimensions of leadership required for success in senior leadership positions across the wider public sector.

• Confidence to model and articulate what it means to be a Pacific leader in the wider public sector and how their work might contribute to the advancement of both Pacific Peoples and New Zealand.

• Skills and understanding to identify and resolve the potential tensions between the development of their individual careers and their responsibilities to the communities to which they belong.

• A working understanding of theories of leadership in a range of western and Pacific contexts and how these inform practice.

Participants of this programme will be active contributors to a developing network of Pacific leaders across the public sector and beyond. They will have their own career development plan, have the skills and tools to review this on a regular basis and be equipped to undertake successful further postgraduate study as appropriate.

Structure

The Pacific Senior Managers Leadership Development programme is a significant commitment over a nine month period. The programme begins with a two-day residential workshop in Wellington and four subsequent two-day workshops every two months.

Please note, the intake for the next LDC course was 2 September 2011 so we are no longer receiving nominations.
