Pacific diplomats to hear about RWC2011 opportunities

Rugby World Cup 2011 Chief Executive Officer Martin Snedden and his officials will outline exciting business and cultural opportunities in and around the tournament to Pacific High Commissioners, Consulates and Trade Commissioners in Wellington tomorrow.

The Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs will play host to the diplomatic missions in New Zealand where Mr Snedden and Festival NZ2011 Director Ms Briony Ellis will outline how Pacific Island communities in New Zealand and nations can be engage in and benefit from the international sporting event.

“It is important for the Pacific diplomats in New Zealand to hear about the plans for the RWC2011 and how Pacific communities in New Zealand and across the Pacific region can make the most from this fantastic sporting event,” said Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs Chief Executive Dr. Colin Tukuitonga.

“This tournament will provide a broad range of opportunities for Pacific communities in New Zealand and the region to celebrate and showcase Pacific cultures and performing arts.

“It will also enhance Pacific and New Zealand trade and investment, and boost the profile of New Zealand and the Pacific Islands as tourism destinations. “

Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs officials have been working closely with other agencies and RWC2011 organisations in Auckland and Wellington to develop a strong Pacific brand for the tournament.

A range of events, activities and projects are being scoped and some of these opportunities will be presented to the Pacific diplomats tomorrow.
