Strategic reports & reviews

The following reports have been issued or commissioned by the Ministry - or published by us in partnership with other government agencies.

Some reports are available through our website links to other government agencies (for example, we provide a link to the Ministry of Education on our “Work Programmes” pages - and you can download a copy of the Pasifika Education Plan using that link.)

The Pacific Economic Action Plan (PEAP) and the Pacific Women’s Economic Development Plan (PWEDP)

The PEAP was launched in 2007 as the third phase of the Pacific Prosperity Strategy. This Strategy has the overarching aim of increasing the participation in and economic contribution of Pacific peoples to the New Zealand economy.

The PEAP sets out strategic goals for Pacific peoples in six areas: education, workforce development, business development, creative, emerging and growth industries, entrepreneurial culture, and leadership.  It describes the milestones and our action plans for achieving the goals.

The goals of the PWEDP are to identify and enhance economic development priorities and actions for Pacific women.  It focuses on four key areas: education, workforce development, business development and leadership.  The programme was launched in 2007 in tandem with the PEAP.

The plans identify activities that we will implement to reach these goals.  Twenty-five organisations, across government, tertiary institutions and the private sector, will be directly involved in ensuring that the plans are implemented successfully.

The Ministry monitors the implementation and progress of the plans, in consultation with relevant agencies.

You can ask for printed versions of the PEAP/PWEDP by sending a request with your name, postal address and the name of the publication you require to email:  information@mpia.govt.nz

Community Reference Group Review, September 2008

We have reviewed the role of the Community Reference Groups which have been convened by the Ministry over a number of years.  We explored ways in which they meet the Ministry's and the communities’ current needs.  The information will be used to review and re-consider ways in which we consult and engage with the Pacific communities in New Zealand in future.

The findings are published in the report, "Community Reference Groups: MPIA Internal Review"

Sexual Violence and Pacific Communities Scoping Report (PDF). The Ministry commissioned a scoping report on Pacific sexual violence and prevention services. This report summarises findings from a scan of the literature and some in-depth interviews with key Pacific informants. The work was undertaken as part of the Ministry’s commitment to the Taskforce for Action on Sexual Violence, and specifically to learning ways to better prevent sexual violence.
