Samoan Language Week

27 May 2012

Talofa lava!

One of New Zealand’s most widely used languages, Samoan, is in the spotlight this week as Vaiaso o le Gagana Sāmoa Samoan Language Week kicks off. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of Samoan Independence Day (1 June) and the signing of the 1962 Treaty of Friendship, a unique agreement between Samoa and New Zealand.

Events are planned across New Zealand and the world. To find out what's happening, visit the Human Rights Commission, the Samoa 2012 website or join the Samoan Language Week facebook page.

Here are some handy resources for you to download to encourage the use of Samoan in your workplace, school or home.
