Aspire Scholarships

The Aspire Scholarship is a new program from the Ministry of Education providing assistance for low income families towards the costs of private secondary schooling. It will contribute up to $15,000 per year towards the tuition fees of a private school for the duration of a student's attendance at this school. It will also include a yearly allowance of up to $1,500 for course related costs.

AFS Pacifikia Scholarships

The AFS Educational Trust provides partial scholarships for Pacific Island students to take up the challenge to live and study overseas.

Criteria
Any student of Pacific Island descent, who is a NZ citizen or permanent resident, aged 15-17 at the time of application and meets the AFS application guidelines.

ESITO Pre Employment Scholarships


The Electrical Supply Industry Training Organisation (ESITO) Scholarships are offered to provide financial assistance, one-to-one electrical supply industry support, industry site visits and assistance with arrangement of holiday employment where possible.

ESITO have two $4,000 scholarships available just for Pacific Island Students to train in an electrical trade. Scholarships will be paid, in instalments, on evidence of acceptance onto an eligible course, as outlined in more detail in the application form.

Barbara Wood Memorial Foundation Scholarship


The scholarships are available to tertiary students who were born in the South Pacific region. Students wishing to study in New Zealand or anywhere in the South Pacific are eligible for funds.

Scholarships up to $1,000 a year are granted. Successful recipients can apply again in any subsequent year.

Endeavour Scholarship Programme


Endeavour Scholarship applications are invited annually from Maori and Pasifika boys and girls who are currently in Year 6 at their present schools.
The Endeavour Scholarships provides the opportunity every year for four girls and four boys to receive an education at St. Cuthbert’s College or King’s School and King’s College from Year 7 to Year 13. This financial scholarship includes tuition fees, uniform allowance and other expenses. Parental contribution will be independently assessed and based on current financial position of family.

Reserve Bank of New Zealand Maori and Pacific Islands Scholarship


Criteria
The scholarship is open to Māori and Pacific Islands' university students who have completed economics, finance or banking studies at the 100 level (completed 1st year of university), who attained at least a B+ grade and who intend to continue studying to Honours level. Evidence of enrolment in full time degree course and payment of fees is required with applications.
Value

The scholarship is valued at $1,500 in the first year, $2,500 in the second year and $3,500 in the final year. The successful applicant will be paired with a Reserve Bank staff member who will act as a mentor.

Norman Kirk Memorial Trust (NKMT)


The Norman Kirk Memorial Trust seeks to promote the welfare and progress of the people of New Zealand and the South Pacific, especially those who have the capacity to benefit from further education, study or training, but who need financial assistance in realising their potential.

Criteria
Applicants MUST be of Pacific Islands descent, proof/evidence of permanent residence or NZ Citizenship. Must demonstrate need for financial assistance, be mature students or seeking a second chance. Must supply results of previous/prior study.

Twenty awards $500 each.

Pacific Islands Polynesian Education Foundation (PIPEF) Scholarship

Criteria
Pacific Island people who must be a NZ citizen or residents studying at a tertiary institution

The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand Pacific Study Award


The Pacific Study Awards, worth $1,000 each, are to encourage and support the Open Polytechnic Pacific students towards completing a qualification.

Criteria
Must be of Pacific descent, currently enrolled at the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand, successfully completed their previous Open Polytechnic studies and evidence of financial need.

New Zealand Institute of Sport Scholarships for Sport Industry Training


Pacific and Maori Scholarships
Criteria
1. Academic Achievement – Exceptional Academic Record
2. Sporting Achievement – Representative level in one or more sports.
3. Club/Community Contribution – Commitment to club and/or community events.

New Horizons for Womens Trust - Second Chance Education Award

 

The Trust’s second-chance awards, to the value of $2,000 or more, are to assist women returning to education or training.

Eligibility
Applicants must be women aged 27 years or over, who have not obtained a qualification of NZQA Level 4 (or the equivalent), and who are studying in NZ for an NZQA-approved qualification.

Sonja Davis Peace Award


To assist a woman or group of women to undertake training or carry out a project that advances the cause of peace - in the home, school, workplace or community.

New Horizons Womens Trust - Ria McBride Public Service Management Award


To help women in the Public Service advance to higher levels of managerial responsibility. Pacific women are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be employed in one of the 38 Departments of Public Service and must have written letter of recommendation from their Chief Executive.

HRC Pacific Career Development
Pacific Health Research Masters Awards


HRC Pacific Career Development Awards are committed to building and supporting Pacific workforce capacity in health research. This one-year scholarship provides personal support for students completing the research component of a Masters degree in a health related field.
Criteria: Applicants should be of Pacific Island descent and be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. Generally successful applicants will be enrolled full-time in a Masters degree programme. The HRC funds the ‘thesis year' (research component) of the Masters degree.
Value $10,000 (Additionally, $1000 for mentoring costs and $4000 for research expenses is available.)

Pacific Health Research Postgraduate Award


Criteria: Applicants should be of Pacific Island descent and be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. Graduate students should be eligible to be enrolled full-time in an approved course of research training leading to a higher degree in a New Zealand university.
Value $25,000 per annum for three years.

Pacific Health Research Postdoctoral Fellowship


Criteria
Applicants should be of Pacific Island descent and a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. Generally, graduate students should be eligible to be enrolled full-time in an approved course of research training leading to a higher degree in a New Zealand university. Value
The value of the fellowship is based on the recipient's qualifications and research experience in regards to salary levels set by the University.

The Ministry of Health established these awards to encourage and support Pacific students to train in health or health management related topics. Criteria

Pacific Mental Health Workforce Awards


The Pacific Mental Health Workforce Awards have been established by the Ministry of Health with a vision of enhancing the Mental Health Sector by building and developing Pacific Mental Health workforce capacity. These awards are being administered by the Health Research Council of New Zealand. Who can apply: The fundamental criteria is that the applicant is enrolled in a qualification that will add value to the Pacific Mental Health Sector. Value: The value of the awards will vary and are dependent on identified needs for each student and for one year of study. The value nominated includes costs of mentoring support.

Awarded to a female student who is a past or present resident of the Hibiscus Coast and who has completed at least one full year of a two or more year course at a University, Polytechnic or College of Education.

Hutt Valley DHB Tupu Pasifika Health Bursary
The Bursaries are available to Pacific peoples contributing to health support and/or services in the Hutt Valley District Health Board region.
