A fund supporting Pacific language media creators with funding for storytelling, music and youth-focused projects is now open.
Applications for the Moana Reo Media Fund are open as of 30 June 2025, with the fund offering targeted financial support for media projects that celebrate and preserve Pacific languages.
Now in its second year, the fund is a partnership between the Ministry for Pacific Peoples and Pacific Media Network, and aims to elevate Pacific language content across diverse media platforms.
First launched in 2024, the fund supported 16 applications in 10 Pacific languages in its first year, resulting in innovative productions across multiple media formats including podcasts, children’s entertainment, music, journalism and documentaries.
This year, the fund offers four tiers of financial support:
The fund welcomes proposals that promote the use of Pacific language, with particular focus on those at risk of decline, including Te Gagana Tokelau, Vagahau Niue, and Te Reo Māori Kūki ‘Airani.
Projects may feature varying degrees of language use, from full immersion to bilingual or multilingual formats.
This funding empowers content creators—filmmakers, journalists, producers, and storytellers—to amplify Pacific voices and narratives that are often underrepresented in mainstream media.
Applications close 5pm Sunday 13 July 2025
