We have launched public consultation on our new draft strategy, Delivering for Pacific Communities, which outlines a refreshed direction for delivering outcomes for Pacific communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Previous strategies were developed in response to the priorities and conditions of their time. It’s time to re-focus on where we can make the greatest impact today, and we’re seeking your views to help shape the way forward.

Secretary for Pacific Peoples, Gerardine Clifford-Lidstone, says the draft strategy outlines a practical, impact-driven approach focused on five key areas identified by Pacific communities and aligned with Government priorities.

“This three-year strategy sets a clearer, more targeted direction. It aligns with both the Government’s priorities and the long-term aspirations of Pacific peoples. It builds on previous work, including Lalanga Fou and thePacific Wellbeing Strategy, while responding to todays challenges says Gerardine.

The draft strategy focuses on five priority areas where the Ministry believes it can make the greatest difference:

  • Economic Growth – lifting Pacific economic contributions and strengthening the Pacific business sector.
  • Health – supporting access to essential health services and promoting the health and wellbeing of Pacific families and communities.
  • Housing – supporting the supply of affordable, fit-for-purpose homes for Pacific families.
  • Education – boosting skills, employment, and investment in Pacific languages and cultures.
  • Law and Order – ensuring communities are safe and supported by investing in culturally responsive initiatives.

To deliver outcomes in these areas, the Ministry will use a practical set of tools - including better data, strong relationships, support for Pacific-led solutions, collaboration across government, and championing Pacific values in action.

“The world is shifting with digital innovation, bringing new opportunities to better understand, connect with, and support Pacific communities. It is our commitment to harness these advancements in a way that makes Pacific peoples’ needs visible, supports their aspirations, and strengthens how we deliver for our communities,” says Gerardine.

“I encourage our Pacific communities to participate and help us get this right,” adds Gerardine.

Consultation is open from 9 September to 3 October 2025.

Pacific peoples, organisations, and stakeholders are encouraged to share their aspirations and priorities for Pacific communities, identify which of the five strategic areas matter most to them, and highlight the key issues they believe the Government should focus on within each area.
